Living with our cute but messy friends
We all love the furry members of our family, but any pet owner knows they can can be a mess looking for a place to happen. From mud to blood, urine to feces to vomit, pets often leave behind not only stains but odors and incubation grounds for bacteria as well – and pet stain removal can be a real chore. So, what’s the best way to keep your home looking and smelling fresh after your four legged friends do their worst?
DIY pet stain removal options
The first step, provided you catch the stain while it’s still fresh, is to remove as much of the contamination as possible. Wipe and blot it up with a towel or paper towels. For carpeted surfaces, fold up a towel on top of it and stand on it (I know it’s gross, maybe put something between the towel and your feet), and do whatever else you can to remove as much of the moisture as possible.
One DIY cleaner you can try is vinegar and baking soda. It’s a good idea to dilute your vinegar 1:1 with some warm water. When adding the baking soda, go slow and be careful – remember those volcanoes from the grade school science fair, and don’t make more of a mess while you’re trying to clean up! You can apply the home-made cleaner using a spray bottle, or just pour it on if you don’t have one handy. Wait 5-10 minutes, and then wipe or vacuum up the solution. Hydrogen peroxide can also be useful as a DIY stain and odor fighter. Consider using it in place of the vinegar.
Professional pet stain removal
If you don’t catch the stain before it’s dry, or if the carpet pad or subfloor are contaminated, then it’s probably time to call in the pros. At Thoroclean, we start by using a UV light to identify any problem areas. This is a great way to chase down that elusive smell, or to clean a space after a pet-owning tenant or owner moves out. Next, we use industrial-grade oxygenated enzymes to attack bio-matter left behind by pets – even when it’s deep within the carpet pad or subfloor. After the enzymes have done their job, we remove them and clean the area with our powerful, truck mounted steam cleaning equipment. This process will blast away pet stains and odors too tough for at home remedies.
We all love our pets, but we also know that pet ownership isn’t all sunshine and cuddles. For your worst pet stain removal problems, trust the cleanliness of your home to Thoroclean.
